Parenting and supper “clean up”

Oh the joys of being new parents, preparing supper and attempting to clean up.

In anticipation of an impending adoption, my wife and I prepared a bunch of frozen meals a couple months back. The idea was to make meal planning a little easier for a few meals.  The day before the planned meal we would pull out a frozen meal and thaw it out in the refrigerator.  Then when supper arrived we would pop the already prepared meal in the oven and PRESTO…supper is served.

Well…last week the plan unfolded the way it was supposed to with one little glitch.  It was a night when Mayah was being really fussy.  Connie was feeding and consoling Mayah and I was getting supper ready.  After supper Mayah was still screaming so I quickly brought the dishes back to the kitchen so I could relive Connie and give her a break.  I later returned to finish “cleaning up” from supper.

That was a Thursday.

On Sunday Connie’s family came over for lunch after worship…and they brought the food. Connie’s sister started preheating the oven and I got the grill ready.  A little while later Connie comes outside and says, “Eric…did you put something in the oven already?”  I said, “No…your sister did.”  Connie laughed and went back inside.  I soon followed and was greeted by everyone laughing.  Apparently on Thursday, after I dished up our plates for supper, I put the rest of the chicken in the oven to keep it warm while we ate…and that’s where it stayed.

No left-overs for us I guess.

And there you go…another thing I have learned about parenthood to add to my list:
~ Sometimes cups of coffee get cold.
~ Sometimes meals need to be reheated.
~ Sometimes the best planned plans don’t work out.
~ And sometimes you just need to laugh at yourself.

I wonder what will happen next 🙂
